An oil catch can is essential on a performance vehicle to protect the engine from elevated levels of crankcase blow-by accumulated from aggressive driving. Excess oil-saturated air circulating back into the air intake stream can lead to degraded performance. Read about all the benefits and functionality of the Radium Engineering's popular catch cans here:   EVO VIII / IX CATCH CAN KIT DETAILS Radium Engineering offers several completely independent oil catch can kits for the Evo VIII / IX that are sold individually or together using the menu above. All kits work with the OEM strut bar. The 1st type do NOT vent to atmosphere (VTA), thus are emissions and track legal. Closed loop systems route clean filtered air back in through the engine to be burned and to promote negative crankcase pressure for optimal performance. Furthermore, closed systems prevent unwanted oil vapors into the cabin. The Crankcase VTA kit does not recirculate crankcase gasses back through the engine and is intended for race vehicles dealing with a large amount of blow-by gasses.   The PCV Catch Can Kit installs immediately underneath the RH strut tower and plumbs in-line with the PCV hose. When the intake manifold pressure is close to or greater than atmospheric pressure, the PCV "check" valve closes and, thus, this hose experiences no flow. Conversely, the PCV hose will experience "metered" vacuum when the engine is idling, steady state cruising, and decelerating. This would normally draw unwanted crankcase vapor, unspent fuel, and oil sludge into the intake manifold immediately after a high load run. Because the Radium catch cans are pressure sealed, they are great for boosted applications as well so connecting to the intake manifold is permitted and will withstand any boost level. Below is a picture of the PCV catch can kit with the strut bar removed for clarity. The PCV kit shown above is a closed system that requires a vacuum signal from the intake manifold to open the PCV valve.   The Crankcase Catch Can Kit installs immediately underneath the LH strut tower and plumbs in-line with the crankcase vent hose. This is the hose that connects from the port on the valve cover to the turbo air intake pipe. During low engine loads, this hose experiences atmospheric pressure, but when the engine is at high load (WOT), this hose will experience vacuum and would normally be drawing unwanted crankcase vapors, unspent fuel, and oil sludge into the air filter intake pipe, turbocharger compressor, etc. For instance. if you are finding oil accumulation stuck in the intercooler, this catch can is a necessity as oil will lower the thermal efficiency properties of the heat exchange process. Below is a picture of the crankcase vent catch can kit with the strut bar in place.   The Crankcase VTA Catch Can Kit is an open (vent to atmosphere) system used for high flowing, high horsepower applications. The closed system options listed above are adequate for most vehicles, however, some loosely built race engines operate with a large amount of boost pressure and the OEM hoses can become too restrictive from excessive blow by. This VTA kit replaces the stock hoses and valve cover fitting with -10AN hose (5/8" ID) and allows the gasses to vent through the catch can to the atmosphere. This kit is not a direct bolt-on and requires welding. The included -10AN male bung must be welded onto the valve cover at the location of the OEM crankcase vent fitting. Like the EVO VIII/IX crankcase system above, this crankcase VTA kit mounts the catch can behind the battery. If a large battery is used, there is a chance that there might not be enough room for the included breather filter (shown above).  What is Included? This kit contains two independent catch cans, each plumbed into different parts of the PCV system. It is designed for users wanting to keep the function of the the closed loop PCV valve which flows fresh air through the engine block to pull out blow-by gasses.
